The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has expressed its support for the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) in recognition of recent achievements in crude oil production and ongoing leadership reforms. In a press statement, the group praised the dedication of NNPCL’s management under Chief Mele Kyari, whose efforts, they say, are steering the organization toward a promising future.
This week, NNPCL announced reaching a production milestone of 1.8 million barrels of crude oil per day, with plans to increase output to two million barrels by December 2024 in alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s targets. The council also welcomed new leadership appointments within NNPCL, including Mr. Adedapo Segun as Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Isiyaku Abdullahi as Executive Vice President (EVP) for Downstream, and Mr. Udobong Ntia as EVP for Upstream.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council praised the milestone as a significant accomplishment, crediting NNPCL’s leadership and collaborative efforts with security forces to protect national resources. The council also urged Nigerians to support Chief Kyari’s efforts to sustain this progress and advocated for placing skilled individuals in key roles to enhance NNPCL’s contributions to the economy.
However, the council highlighted the economic difficulties many Nigerians are currently facing due to high petrol prices. They called on Chief Kyari and NNPCL to review the current petrol pricing structure to offer relief to citizens, underscoring the need for an urgent adjustment to alleviate economic pressures.
